Claire Docherty is a Glasgow-based composer, facilitator and performer who has worked in participatory arts settings for 10 years, designing and delivering music projects for organisations across Scotland. She is the creator and Director of Sonic Bothy.
She completed an Mmus in composition in 2008 and has written music for chamber ensembles, choirs and theatre, including Ankur, Edinburgh Quartet, Glasgow Madrigirls and others. She performs regularly as a violinist with her project work.
Her participatory practice centres around collaboratively creating new music that incorporates a number of styles and approaches to composition, with particular emphasis on C20th music. Many of her projects have been designed for children and adults with additional support needs.
She currently teaches undergraduate music composition/participatory project at Glasgow University.
She formed Sonic Bothy in May 2012 to create new opportunities for musicians she had met in projects across Scotland, and has developed the project to date with the aid of two funding awards from Creative Scotland.
