Sonic Bothy Ensemble

The award-winning Sonic Bothy Ensemble collaboratively explores, composes and performs experimental and new music.

The ensemble of eight disabled and non-disabled musicians create original works that define new ideas with accessibility underpinning, radically and dynamically shaping the music. Their eclectic interests span from free improvisation, contemporary classical, dance, electroacoustic, musicals, and noise.

Formed in 2012, the ensemble has performed at various festivals to great acclaim, including HippFest (2023), Tectonics (2021), TUSK Festival (2019), GIOfest (2012, 2013, & 2018), ISME conference (2016), sound Festival (2014), and Counterflows (2013). In 2019, the ensemble released Fields, their first album of original works. The ensemble won the Musicians’ Union Award for New Music Performer at the 2023 Scottish Awards for New Music for their work on Verbaaaaatim, an artistic performance film premiered at Tectonics 2021.

At least 70% of the ensemble are disabled musicians.
