Pim Rommelaere
Youth Projects Trainee Musician
Flute & Percussion
Pim (he/him) is a musician, trainee music practitioner and researcher from Belgium, currently based in Glasgow.
He graduated from the University of Sheffield with an MA in Music Psychology in 2024, specialising in the musical vocality of transgender and gender diverse singers, and will continue as a doctoral candidate in October 2024. His research focusses on the lived experiences of this community in LGBT+ choirs, with the aim of identifying and addressing barriers to participation, as well as investigating the relationship between LGBT+ choral participation and the mental wellbeing of transgender and gender diverse individuals.
Pim strongly believes that music making can not only support communities and connection, but also allows for highly diverse self-expression and joy. For that reason outside of academia he is actively involved in creating inclusive spaces for transgender and gender diverse musicians and volunteering at music sessions for disadvantaged children and young people in Glasgow. In his free time, he enjoys performing, experimenting with instruments and taking part in jam sessions.
